Hi, I’m Lilly-May Guerin.
My Story
At the young age of 15 living in a rural town of Albury NSW, I was a active child, who loved Netball, being active and all things socialising. One morning I woke up with a sudden pain in the stomach, this started with the thought of just a common sickness. Within one month I lost 20 kgs and became very sick. I could see myself going downhill very quickly.
My parents started to do some personal investigations and then with constant GP appointments and no answers, the result started to feel like it was getting further and further away from an answer. The only possible answer they could tell my parents were cancers or tumours.
Two years down the track of constant and debilitating pain, many investigations with MRI, CT scans, Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy plus many more test that I can't recall. One and half years on and no answers we ended up getting a referral to the Royal Children's Hospital. I received treatment and investigation from a Gastroenterologist, and the result was given that I had a nasty bacteria which was H.pylori (Helicobacter) an over-obstructed bowel.
Due to the constant back and forth from GP appointments to specialist appointments, I felt that there was a lack of resources that are needed within our community to ensure good health and well-being. With all the medication I was given, it has now affected not only my mental health but my gut microbiome. This has been a passion of mine ever since starting my Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine degree, to help others who are affected by an illness, or concern that they can't get a definitive answer for. I'm here to help investigate and use food as medicine to help treat any condition that comes to me.
